Lanzarote En Pie will propose to the Plenary of the capital's City Council the declaration as low emission zones (LEZ) of the Avenida de la Marina and the city center.
Leandro Delgado explains that with this proposal they seek to "achieve the goal of improving air quality and the health of the citizens of Arrecife, as well as promoting a change in the use of transport towards a more sustainable and efficient one."
LEP recalls that on January 1, 2023, the obligation for municipalities with more than fifty thousand inhabitants to have areas of circulation restricted to polluting vehicles came into force. "This obligation is included in the Climate Change Law approved in 2021," indicate the municipalists.
Delgado argues that "it is evident that the city of Arrecife suffers from efficient management of urban traffic, circulation and mobility in general. In addition, it lacks measures that contribute to mitigating air pollution."
In this sense, the municipalist councilor wanted to emphasize that "not even actions have been promoted to promote public transport throughout the mandate. In fact, the current mayor proposes the total opening of the avenue as a proposal for her re-election."
"We have proposed the drafting of an ordinance to improve air quality, another for the protection of the urban environment, several proposals on the regulation of traffic in Arrecife, and all have fallen on deaf ears because Astrid Pérez's government group did not want to carry them out," laments the LEP councilor.
Finally, Leandro Delgado hopes that "Lanzarote En Pie's proposal will be approved because it is a magnificent opportunity for the Arrecife City Council to begin the transition towards sustainable and efficient mobility in the municipality."
