The Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium approved this Monday the budgets for the year 2024, which increase to "6,750,000 euros", which is "7.2% more" than the previous year. Oswaldo Betancort positively valued this increase in the budget "that meets the security needs of all the citizens of the island."

The president of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, Francisco Aparicio, described these budgets as "great news for the islands". "They are, without a doubt, a benefit for all the residents of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, who will enjoy an increase in security and rescue for the coming year," he stressed.

Specifically, for the year 2024, "454,717 euros more" have been approved than in 2023, mainly motivated by the "increase in the contribution of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, and other agents" such as the Government of the Canary Islands and the Port Authority.

Expenses and investments for the year 2024

"We currently have 49 civil servant positions and 16 labor positions, with currently six civil servant positions and one labor position vacant that we will try to fill to expand the staff of the Consortium," adds Aparicio. In addition, in this same section of expenses, the security body foresees that "more than 3 million euros will be allocated to expenses in current goods and services", an amount necessary to "correctly cover the expenses provided by the Consortium.

On the other hand, although the investment item is endowed with "337,060.31 euros of own funds", this amount is complemented by the subsidies received from the Cabildo de Lanzarote, which allow "to undertake different projects and improvements" to quickly and efficiently meet possible contingencies.

In this same section of investments, the acquisition of ten vehicles, two of them electric, is reflected, which will increase the fleet necessary to cover the needs of the Security and Emergency Consortium.

In the infrastructure chapter, the Security and Emergency Consortium will soon begin the work on the project of the 'Tías Intervention Post', an installation that seeks to "shorten arrival times" in the event of emergencies in the southeast area of the island.

In addition, the subsidy has also been received to undertake the works in Haría and Playa Blanca, in order to create 'Intervention Posts' in both locations, as well as the creation of a future and remodeled 'Fire Station' in Arrecife.
