The political group Lanzarote En Pie in the Arrecife City Council denounces, "once again, the terrible management that the Department of Commerce continues to do with respect to the municipal tourist market that has forced several users to stop setting up the stalls because it is no longer profitable.”
From the formation they explain that "if a few months ago, the aforementioned area of municipal government was news for the attempt to outsource the management of the Arrecife market that, after the complaint of the users of the same and of this political group, was frustrated, fortunately for the interests of the users who make use of their sales positions"; now, they add, "the area directed by Armando Santana is once again due to the abandonment of the same, as several of the aforementioned users have denounced, since there is a manifest lack of attention that means that the necessary resources are not allocated and it gives the impression that they are trying to let it die” lamented the spokesperson for LeP, Leticia Padilla, who recalled that “before, the excuse for the poor management of the market was that there was no municipal technician, but now that there is one, it works even worse, so we greatly fear that it is not a technical problem but a political one.”
"To these criticisms are added those of several merchants in the area who, on Saturdays with the influx of public to the market, benefited from the situation to recover part of the economic losses that they have been suffering during the pandemic and that has been aggravated with the closure of a good part of the large stores, such as Zara, among others, which were an attraction for consumers", they add.
"It gives the impression", says Padilla, that “the rejection of the outsourcing of the service has served as an excuse to abandon it to its fate with the very serious damage that this entails for local commerce.”
Finally, they state that "we will remain expectant to the development of the service and the alternatives to it that may arise from private initiative, while we will continue to insist on the need for the municipal council to make a clear commitment to keep it alive, guaranteeing its quality, efficiency and effectiveness, advocating social dialogue, the creation of spaces for participation and empathizing with the needs and demands of each of the actors that participate in the service."
