The municipal group of Lanzarote En Pie - Sí Podemos in the Arrecife City Council has demanded to preside over the Commission of Inquiry on the Ginory site, also questioning that it is still not "launched", despite the fact that four months ago its constitution was finally announced.
"We do not understand that, to this day, we have not yet been notified about the matter, since the representation of each political group in the Commission was foreseen. We also do not know when it will be launched, something that seems worrying to us, considering that we are talking about a matter that is costing citizens almost 30 million euros,” warned LEP spokesperson, Leticia Padilla.
The councilor has also questioned the composition of this body again, since she considers that the presidency should not have been left in the hands of Armando Santana, from Nueva Canarias. “If they wanted to find the figure of a councilor whose political formation had never had management responsibilities in the Arrecife City Council, as has been said from the current government group, it is incongruous with the current appointment,” says Padilla. In this regard, she maintains that "Nueva Canarias had two councilors in the government of the Popular Party during the mandate of Cándido Reguera (2009-2012), one of them in the area of Urbanism". The councilor is referring to Pedro de Armas, who at that time belonged to the PNL and went to the elections together with NC.
"The only councilors who should be able to preside over that commission would be the LEP councilors, given that we are the only ones who have not had government responsibility throughout the entire Ginory case process,” defends Leticia Padilla. However, she questions that they are being "left out of the configuration of the commission of inquiry", despite the fact that it is "the only group that has not had government responsibilities in Arrecife and, therefore, has not been a direct participant or accomplice in the irregularities that have undoubtedly taken place in the management of this matter.”
For the spokesperson of LEP, taking into account that her group "had made considerable progress in the investigation, it is inevitable to think that they have acted in this way because they prefer to resolve the procedure by seeking a consensus resolution and without having LEP asking uncomfortable questions about the responsibilities that each political group had during the process of this matter, which ended with a millionaire payment of public money."
Finally, from LEP they also affirm that they have "logical doubts" about the "availability" of the current president of the commission. "This is an important investigation, in it it must be determined who has been responsible for the citizens of Arrecife having lost almost 30 million euros of their municipal assets, and for this it requires dedication, time and detailed study of the data. It is inefficient for the investigation to delegate the functions of the presidency to a public official with multiple occupations and who, according to his statements, has had to renounce his responsibilities as deputy mayor and cease his participation in the Local Government Board to dedicate himself exclusively to the areas he directs,” Padilla points out.
