Lanzarote En Pie (LEP) has presented a motion to the Arrecife plenary session with the aim of "solving the serious problem of the proliferation of uncontrolled dumping of rubble and belongings in the capital of the Biosphere Reserve."

The formation points out that "there are many citizen complaints", which they receive about the state of the plots in the neighborhoods. "It is evident to everyone that the capital of the Biosphere Reserve has dozens of plots and spaces full of rubble, construction debris, industrial waste or waste from related activities, etc.", they maintain.

Given this context, the spokesperson for the political group in the Arrecife City Council, Leticia Padilla, has denounced that most of the garbage found in these plots "usually comes from commercial or industrial activities, and does not follow the correct waste management procedure of this type."

"There have been many years of deficiencies in the management and control of this type of situation that compromises the environment of the capital. They have not even bothered to comply with the current regulatory Ordinance," Padilla points out.

From Lanzarote En Pie they remember that the state Law 16/2002 of July 1, on prevention and integrated pollution control "makes very clear the responsibility of public administrations in matters of environment and sustainable development."

On the other hand, the municipal spokesperson has also announced that she will propose for debate in the plenary session, "the preparation of a list of plots and parcels in which the presence of uncontrolled rubble dumping is noticed in the municipality of Arrecife." In addition, they also point out that the notification will be made to the owner of the plot in which this type of landfill is located "so that they proceed to comply with the Regulatory Ordinance of the municipal cleaning service, as established in articles 7 and 72 of the same."

Finally, Lanzarote en Pie will demand that the municipal inspection carry out "a follow-up of the aforementioned order of compliance", and that the Plenary propose "the signing of an inter-administrative collaboration agreement with the Cabildo de Lanzarote so that it makes available to the Arrecife City Council a team of inspectors or environmental managers."
