The Governing Council of the Cabildo de Lanzarote has approved this Monday an Anti-Fraud Measures Plan for the correct management of the funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan “Next Generation” of the European Union.
“This Plan is aimed at the prevention, detection and correction of any fraud, corruption or conflict of interest in the management and application of public funds”, explains the president of the first island corporation, María Dolores Corujo, who specifies that through this plan it is intended to exert “a deterrent effect for any type of fraudulent activity and develop procedures that facilitate the investigation in the event of possible fraud in the institution”.
“Following the line of work for transparency and Open Government, the Cabildo de Lanzarote takes a great step with this Anti-Fraud Measures Plan, implementing actions that will allow monitoring that the funds are applied to the purposes for which they are intended, without any irregularity in the contracting”, points out the Councilor for Open Government of the Cabildo, Jorge Peñas.
Complaints mailbox and other measures
Among the measures that will be implemented through this plan, the Cabildo explains that "a complaints mailbox will be enabled on the Cabildo's website, through which any person, anonymously, will be able to notify the alleged irregularities that they may have detected."
Likewise, the island corporation will have an internal control system and will organize training courses and talks on different topics related to fraud and corruption, in order to "train its staff with learning that helps to detect and prevent the unethical behavior of the use of public funds and, therefore, potential fraud".
Similarly, the Cabildo de Lanzarote announces that it will approve an institutional declaration of the fight against fraud based on the values of integrity, objectivity, accountability and honesty, as well as subscribe to a code of conduct and ethical principles that must be followed by all public employees, among other measures.
