The former mayor of Yaiza, José Francisco Reyes (who governed with the acronyms of CC and PNL) acquired a plot of one thousand square meters from the company Urbanización Los Fragosos for a value of 180,000 euros without taking money from his current accounts or those of his wife and children.
According to a report by the Economic and Fiscal Crimes Unit of the National Police (Udef) that was sent last June to Court number 2 of Arrecife, which is processing the case of the alleged criminal offenses produced in the granting of illegal licenses during his mandate, the agents found a purchase and sale contract for this property in the registry of the former mayor's home, when he was arrested two years ago.
According to that private contract of September 2005, the then mayor paid 120,000 euros and was pending payment of another 60,000 to that company.
The contract specifies, according to the police report, that a plot of one thousand square meters is acquired in the partial plan Los Fragosos S.L. There is no partial plan with that name in Lanzarote, but there is a complex of 24 apartments in Puerto del Carmen that is called that.
The police report includes another series of purchases by Reyes that were also made without any notes related to those payments appearing in his accounts, according to the Police. These expenses add up to another 100,000 euros in five invoices: the purchase of a segway, a furniture invoice, others for upholstery and two from a construction company for a value of 88,000 euros related to the Las Breñas Farm.
Reyes, who has been in provisional prison for this case, even confessed that he had participated in operations with privileged information and that he had received money for granting licenses with the mandatory reports or with reports against it, although he later retracted his confession. In the last four years, an increase in assets of almost 800,000 euros was detected without justification.
Witnesses and defendants continue to testify in this procedure in Court number 2. This Wednesday, the lawyers Ignacio Díaz de Aguilar and Felipe Fernández Camero and the secretary of the Yaiza City Council, Vicente Bartolomé, testified as defendants, and on Friday the lawyer Juana Fernández de las Heras, Rafael Mesa Ferrer and José Francisco Reyes himself will do so.
