The former mayor of Arrecife, María Isabel Déniz, left her home in Playa Honda at around 12 noon this Monday, escorted by agents from the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard.

Déniz has been arrested as part of the third phase of Operation "Unión", which returned to the island this Monday. After spending several hours inside the house, the UCO agents left with at least three boxes in which, supposedly, there would be documentation found at the former mayor's house.

Isabel Déniz would be charged with an alleged crime of bribery, linked to her time as mayor of Arrecife. It should be remembered that Déniz belonged to the Party of Independents of Lanzarote (PIL), although she is currently a member of Coalición Canaria.

In addition, the UCO agents have proceeded to carry out searches in other parts of the island, within a new phase of Operation "Unión". This new intervention is the result of months of investigations, and is part of the part of the summary that remained secret.
