Intersindical Canaria (IC) has announced the postponement to the first quarter of 2010 of the strike day scheduled for this Friday in the sectors of Education and Administration General of the Autonomous Community, although it maintains the one in Health, due to the "lack of unity" among the trade union organizations of the Archipelago, said leaders of the nationalist union this Tuesday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The members of Intersindical Canaria acknowledged before the media, in a press conference held in the capital of Gran Canaria, that "we do not understand" the reasons that push other centrals not to support the call in Education and Administration, but yes in Health. "The reasons are the same, and also, the maintenance in the health sector supports the thesis that there are reasons to call the strike," said the spokesman for Stec-Intersindical, Fernando Pellicer.

New date for the first quarter of 2010

Another issue "that we do not understand", according to the spokesman, is that "they do support the demonstrations that are called under the same slogan of the strike for the 18th in the afternoon in the two Canary capitals". These acts, in protest against the budget cut measures planned in the budgets of the Canary Community, will cause the meeting of all the union representatives "and there we will talk", said Pellicer.

Pellicer insisted that "we will continue to meet to call a new strike in the first quarter of next year, which will be the prelude, as planned, to a strike in all sectors in the first half of 2010", to "show the rejection of the gradual dismantling and before our eyes, of the public sector in the islands".

Unity, paramount

From Intersindical they consider "essential and paramount" that these strikes are called under the umbrella of unity, to "demonstrate to the Government of the Canary Islands the seriousness of the situation". However, Pellicer laments, "the other centrals "do not dare to answer him forcefully". At no time did he want to specify the reasons that have led the other union forces to distance themselves from this call, "better ask them", he said.

This de-call substantially reduces the number of people called to the strike, which goes from 60,000 to 15,000, although the promoters are confident in the success of the day, and that the attendance at the demonstrations is massive.
