The Government of the Canary Islands has assigned 37 megawatts of wind power reserved for Lanzarote to five projects. In this way, Inalsa loses the wind power tender again, destined to pour all the energy into the island's electrical systems, as reported in a statement by the Department of Employment, Industry and Tourism of this Executive.

The projects chosen as beneficiaries of this power allocation are the Chimida and Montaña Mina II Wind Farms, promoted by Alas Capital & G.N., the Caldera de Zonzomas Wind Farm, by Sayago Wind, SL; and the La Camellita and Cerro Tabayesco Wind Farms, which will be installed by Endesa Cogeneración y Renovables, SA.

With this new resolution, which has been published this Friday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, the Government puts an end to the administrative process of this procedure, after resolving the appeals presented by several companies, such as Inalsa.

A total of 74 applications

The public call for wind power allocation registered 74 applications for the island of Lanzarote. The total megawatts requested amounted to 644.6, 17 times more than the power to be allocated by the public tender on the island.

From the publication of these allocations in the BOC, the beneficiary companies have a period of ten days to accept the power allocation. They also have one year to present the projects and two years for the provisional start-up of the facilities.

The Ministry of Employment, Industry and Commerce continues working to conclude the procedure in the other islands and thus complete the allocation of the 440 megawatts in new parks. Once all these parks are up and running, within a maximum period of two years, the Canary Islands will exceed 50% of the objective foreseen in the Canary Islands Energy Plan 2006-2015 for the implementation of wind energy.
