Inalsa disclaims responsibility and points to Yaiza as responsible for the spills

Insular de Aguas de Lanzarote (Inalsa) responded to the statements of the representatives of the Yaiza City Council regarding the alleged responsibility of the public company for the discharge of treated water that forced the closure of Playa Dorada last Saturday at noon.

The CEO of Inalsa, Mario Pérez, specified that "although the sanitation powers are held by the island water company, the truth is that in the case of some urbanizations of Playa Blanca this is not the case, by virtue of a collaboration agreement signed in April 2002 by the mayor of Yaiza, José Francisco Reyes, the president of the Cabildo at that time, Enrique Pérez Parrilla and promoters of the different partial plans".

Agreement

From the management of Inalsa it is specified that, according to that agreement, each urbanization of that town in the south of Lanzarote, such as, for example, "Castillos del Aguila", "San Marcial del Rubicón" and "Las Coloradas", "all of them duly approved by the competent bodies, were in charge of the installation and financing of wastewater treatment plants and storage tanks for their respective partial plans, so that Insular de Aguas would be responsible for the sanitation of those urbanizations.

If this agreement had not been reached, the partial plans would be solely responsible for residual sanitation and not Inalsa".

However, and based on the collaboration agreement, the Costa Papagayo Partial Plan (apparently the origin of the spills) was excluded from the agreement "by the property's own decision, which means that it is solely and exclusively up to them and the Yaiza City Council, which I understand must be unaware of this agreement and the urban reality of the southern coast", said Mario Pérez.

For all these reasons, the CEO of Inalsa urges the competent administrations to find a quick solution, "if necessary with the collaboration of the Insular Water Council", so that the entire sanitation network of Playa Blanca has a single person responsible and avoid situations as negative for the Island as the one registered this weekend.

Yaiza defends itself

The Yaiza City Council announced that it will make public copies of the Inalsa invoices for which the company charges some residents of the Costa Papagayo Urbanization for the treated water network services. In this way, the Southern Consistory intends to deny the statements of the CEO of Inalsa.

Red Flag

The Yaiza City Council decreed last Saturday the prohibition of swimming in Playa Dorada. Municipal workers proceeded to raise the red flag and install signs warning of the prohibition of swimming, despite them, some users have bathed on the beach ignoring the danger signs.

The Department of Beaches and Environment of the Yaiza City Council is awaiting the results of the Public Health area of Lanzarote to determine if there is contamination in the area due to the discharge of treated and reused water that was discharged last Saturday due to the alleged breakage of a part of the sanitation network in the Costa Papagayo urbanization,

Papagayo, in the tourist and fishing town of Playa Blanca.

From the Yaiza Consistory, citizens and beach users are urged to respect, for their own good, these signs that preventively discourage swimming and make use of the multiple beaches on the south coast of Lanzarote.
