The Department of Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has announced the start of works to improve the water supply in Tinajo and Mancha Blanca. On the occasion of these works, recently, the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, together with the vice president and head of the area, Jacobo Medina, and the Minister of Water, Domingo Cejas, visited the work to learn firsthand what situation it is in.
In addition, the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, and the municipal Works councilor, Luis Miguel Berriel, also attended the visit.
Oswaldo Betancort stressed that this investment responds to the need to solve structural problems that cause systematic cuts in Tinajo, Mancha Blanca, El Cuchillo or La Santa. "Currently there is a drinking water transport pipe between Montaña Mina and Tinajo, which also supplies surrounding areas. Due to current consumption, Mancha Blanca and several sectors of Tinajo are left without service or it is scarce frequently," he detailed.
The vice president and Minister of Public Works, Jacobo Medina, indicated that the solution is to "adapt the two tanks located in Montaña de Tinache, so that a bypass will be made to the transport line, which will derive in a new pipe that will be installed and communicate to a tank located in the lower level of the mountain and, from there, pump to the two tanks located in the upper part".
Likewise, the Minister of Water, Domingo Cejas, explained that the aim is to urgently supply the urban centers of Tinajo, Mancha Blanca, El Cuchillo and La Santa. "In addition to the adaptation of the Tinajo tanks, the enabling and commissioning of the drinking water pumping station to these tanks, fencing of the facilities, implementation of a remote control system, among others, will be carried out," said the councilor.
The work is being carried out by the company Hormiconsa Canarias S.A. and has a budget of 1,439,043.40 euros, financed 80% by FDCAN funds and 20% by the Cabildo de Lanzarote. It is estimated that the actions will last about 10 months from the beginning of the same.
