A transport strike in the Peninsula will negatively impact Lanzarote. Fresh products imported from there, that is, fruit, vegetables, meat and fish will not arrive in stores until next Monday. The problem is that the strike caused the ship that brings these foods to the Island not to leave Cádiz until Wednesday. "Therefore, it arrives in Las Palmas tomorrow, unloads in the morning, the goods will be transferred to a ship that makes the route from Fuerteventura to Lanzarote that will arrive on Saturday," explained the president of the Association of Fruit and Vegetable Distributors of Lanzarote (Afruvelan), Ismael Villalba.

As it is the weekend, the distribution of the merchandise cannot be carried out until Monday morning. Therefore, consumers will not have these new products until the afternoon of the 26th. This delay will mean that the state in which these products may arrive is at least regrettable, since the delay may decrease their quality.

Crisis

This circumstance has occurred precisely in the same week in which the businessmen of Lanzarote, supported by the Cabildo, have requested the shipping company Transmediterránea not to delay the stopover of the cargo ship of goods in the Port of Los Mármoles since it would cause supply problems. This is the request that the businessmen conveyed to the delegates in the Canary Islands of Transmediterránea, Martín Martín Paredes and Jaime López, in the meeting they held as a result of the changes that the company wants to make. The shipping company's plan is for this ship to carry out its unloading on Fridays instead of Wednesdays as it has been doing until now. The consequence is that the distribution of the products would be delayed until Monday since this work would not be carried out during the weekend.
