The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has decided to reinforce control and prevention measures against Covid-19 in Tenerife to try to contain the expansion of the coronavirus on that island. Thus, a population screening will be carried out in several areas of Tenerife, a vaccination day will be held without prior appointment in the Santiago Martín Pavilion and a new sample sequencing system will be launched to determine the variant of the virus.
The SCS will carry out this Saturday and Sunday a population screening aimed at residents of Barranco Grande (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), La Cuesta (La Laguna) and Granadilla de Abona, areas that currently have a high accumulated incidence. In total, the target population for this screening is 53,947 people: 28,934 in Granadilla de Abona, 16,034 in Barranco Grande and 8,979 in La Cuesta.
All those between 18 and 45 years of age residing in La Cuesta, Barranco Grande and Granadilla de Abona who come to the screening points may participate in this screening. This screening will be carried out using rapid antigen tests and, if a positive is confirmed, it will be ratified with a PCR test.
This initiative seeks to locate possible asymptomatic positive cases in that age group of the population, as this is where the highest number of infections is currently concentrated. In this way, the expansion of the coronavirus can be tracked and controlled.
24 hours of vaccination this Sunday
Also, this Sunday, July 4, at 08:00 hours, a vaccination day without prior appointment will begin in the Santiago Martín Pavilion, which will continue uninterrupted until 08:00 hours on Monday the 5th. In addition, in this venue, the population that has been summoned for that same day will also be vaccinated, according to the schedule planned for this vaccination point.
This action, the first to be developed in the Canary Islands for 24 hours in a row, will be aimed at people between 40 and 59 years of age, that is, those born between 1962 and 1981, with the aim of promoting immunization in this age group.
Those residents of Tenerife included in this age group who have not received any dose of the vaccine may go to this vaccination point and will be vaccinated with the Janssen drug.
With this action, the Ministry affirms that an important boost will be given to the vaccination campaign in Tenerife, since it is expected to immunize around 12,000 people only at this vaccination point.
