The mayor of Haría and representative of the northern municipality in the Advisory Council of Canary Islands Ports, Alfredo Villalba, traveled this Tuesday to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to participate in the opening meeting of the new legislature in the entity.

During the meeting, the mayor expressed the need to take measures on the control of fuel spills in the port of Órzola, as well as to regulate the schedules of the shipping companies, since their activity has been increasing considerably in recent times.

The northern Council also stressed the limitation of noise pollution caused by the companies operating on the dock, with the exception of mandatory maneuvers, and advocated for an improvement in the operability of the port, the only point of connection with the island of La Graciosa.

"All these demands have been made with the intention of improving the quality of life of the inhabitants of Órzola and those who visit us", Villalba said at the end of the meeting of the public business entity of the Government of the Canary Islands, responsible for managing the ports of general interest, port facilities, shelters and breakwaters of the Archipelago.

According to the mayor of Haría, the president of the Advisory Council of Canary Islands Ports, Sebastián Franquis, was receptive to the requests of the municipality, so he hopes "that all necessary actions will be taken to improve the operation of these facilities in the north of the island".
