The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, informed the president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada Ojeda, this Tuesday of the modification of the outer fence of Puerto Naos, where the fishing activity of the capital of Lanzarote is concentrated.
The president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas held a working meeting during the morning with the capital's first mayor. In this meeting, the willingness of the Ports to carry out actions that reduce the visual impact of the current fence in the perimeter area of the port area of Arrecife, next to Naos, has been ratified.
The mayor of Arrecife, a member of the council of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, had requested this modification in these meetings. In addition to these requests in the council, Beatriz Calzada Ojeda had confirmed this municipal request in a previous meeting with the Government group of the Arrecife City Council, a few weeks after taking office.
According to the documentation registered by the Port Authority, the regulations establish that state port facilities must have a perimeter security zone with fencing and access controls. With the action now proposed by Puertos, it is intended to replace the current fence built in concrete a decade ago, and establish a new one on the perimeter with less visual impact, created in another material, and that allows citizens to contemplate the port area when walking through this area of the city, in one of whose extremes it is projected, with the collaboration of the City Council and Cabildo, to create an urban park that connects the port with the Vía Medular.
The city's demand is that the entire area can gain visibility without the "current concrete bars", the Arrecife City Council has stated.
The mayor, together with the president of the Port Authority, after concluding the meeting, moved this midday to the port area where the fence is located, which will be replaced during this 2024 by the AP.
