On the morning of this Friday, December 9, the mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, and the Minister of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela Armas, have signed the agreement by which the educational department will finance the construction of the new Center for Early Childhood and Primary Education (CEIP) Mayor Alexis Tejera Lemes.
The signature puts an end to the administrative process that certifies the collaboration between both administrations to provide the municipality with a new school to replace the provisional facilities of the CEIP El Quintero enabled in the Casa Ajei.
Isidro Pérez pointed out that "the signing of this agreement means finally seeing one of the priorities of this government group materialized: satisfying the educational demands of our municipality." He also thanked the Minister of Education for her commitment to this project from the beginning.
For her part, Manuela Armas assured that the signing of this type of agreement constitutes an effective formula for improving educational infrastructures "since the Government covers investments that are substantial, while the City Councils, at the foot of the work, guarantee compliance with deadlines and contractual requirements."
This action responds to a historical demand of the educational community of the municipality, which since 2005 has been demanding new school facilities.
According to the agreement, a multi-year expenditure of 7,577,585.91 euros will be committed to finance the construction of the new public school, which will have 18 units, six for students from three to six years old and twelve additional for the section from six to twelve years old.
These funds will also be used to cover the expenses of the complementary spaces, in order to cover all the needs of the center. In total, the constructed area will be 4,638 square meters on a plot of 12,020 square meters.
