The government group of the Arrecife City Council rejected this Tuesday in the Plenary a motion by Ganemos in which it proposed a series of measures to improve the housing situation in the capital, "as is being done in many other municipalities in the Canary Islands and throughout the Spanish territory."
According to Ganemos, although the Councilor for Housing and Social Services of the Arrecife City Council, Vicky Sande, has stated that "the motion is wonderful", she has rejected it "alluding to the lack of powers and the creation of an island housing consortium by the Cabildo." In this regard, the party recalls that "the PSOE itself rejected creating this consortium when the Somos Lanzarote party presented a motion in this regard in the highest island institution."
The spokesperson for Ganemos, Leticia Padilla, has also reprimanded the councilor responsible for the area that, at the time of presenting the motion in the informative commission, "her objections were not mentioned in order to correct them and that it could be approved." "Which, in our opinion, demonstrates a complete lack of will to alleviate a problem that is dramatically affecting many families in the municipality," the formation considers.
Finally, Ganemos has returned "once again" to denounce "how little this city council is doing in the face of this situation, which is more serious every day that passes." "Using the we cannot as an excuse, they are leaving their neighbors completely helpless in the face of impossible rental prices, while there are still thousands of empty homes that they do not bother to adequately census and promote or rehabilitate if necessary. With will and desire, many things could be done, but it seems that they neither care nor is it their concern," they concluded.
