The rehabilitation works of the 5.6-kilometer road that connects the towns of Maciot and Playa Blanca are progressing with day and night work shifts with the forecast of opening to traffic next Friday, May 9, as reported by the contractor Lanzagrava to the two public administrations committed to this assignment. On the one hand, the Yaiza City Council, in charge of drafting the project, and the Cabildo de Lanzarote, responsible for its execution through the Department of Public Works, with an investment of close to 1.1 million euros from the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN).

This was confirmed by the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, the Councilor for Public Works of the Island Council, Jacobo Medina, and the Councilor for Roads and Public Works of Yaiza, Ángel Lago, who visited the area of action last Wednesday. “It is a main artery that needed to be rehabilitated and that is why we drafted the project to carry it out in inter-administrative collaboration with the Cabildo de Lanzarote. It includes improvements throughout the road and the resurfacing of the two large roundabouts,” says the southern mayor.

For his part, Councilor Jacobo Medina valued “the coordinated technical work of both institutions and the attention of the contracting company to which we have requested speed in the execution to minimize the inconvenience, especially to the residents of Femés and the restoration businesses of the town.”

The mayor of Yaiza recalls that “the LZ2 and this road that is under construction are the two roads in and out of Playa Blanca. Many residents, tourists and workers who come to fulfill their working day in Playa Blanca prefer to arrive and leave through Femés, so we have asked the Government of the Canary Islands for administrative collaboration to draft the project to improve the slope of the pass, known as the ascent to Femés. It is a complex project that needs the competition and co-financing of the Autonomous Community and we have conveyed this to the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguez, in the meeting where we also requested and argued for the duplication of the Yaiza - Playa Blanca road.”

For his part, the Councilor for Public Works of Yaiza reported on another municipal initiative that continues the rehabilitation of the Maciot – Playa Blanca road: “it is about improving the road and the surroundings of Calle Salida a Femés, between the Plabacón roundabout and the Aldi roundabout. In addition to resurfacing and repairing the road margins, we want to intervene in the landscaping to improve safety and give a much friendlier image of Playa Blanca.”
