Felipe Fernández Camero's daughter and lawyer, Juana Fernández de las Heras, visited José Francisco Reyes in prison a few days before the former mayor of Yaiza withdrew his confession in the case of the alleged plot for the granting of illegal licenses. This is confirmed by the visitor log of the Tahíche Penitentiary Center, and the information has already been sent to the Investigating Court Number 2 of Arrecife, which requested the names of the people who met with Reyes during the time he spent in pre-trial detention.
This information gathered by the Court reinforces the theses put forward by the prosecutor, Ignacio Stampa, who requested that this data be investigated due to suspicions that the lawyer of another defendant in the case may have influenced or pressured Reyes to withdraw his confession, in which he admitted to having received money from several businessmen in exchange for granting licenses. Now, it has been confirmed that there was a visit, specifically from Fernández Camero's daughter, whom the Prosecutor's Office identifies as "the instigator of José Francisco Reyes' allegedly criminal conduct".
In the document with which this procedure was initiated, the prosecutor argued that the change in the former mayor of Yaiza's statement did not benefit him or his family. And with a detailed chronology, the Public Prosecutor's Office argued that it could not have responded to a recommendation from his own lawyer either. The fact is that around that time, Reyes changed lawyers, and on the first day he met with his new legal representative, Pablo Luna, he handed him a letter that he had already written, according to his own testimony, expressing his desire to retract.
Other "coincidences"
In addition, the prosecutor also based his request on other circumstances, such as the fact that some defendants knew in advance that Reyes was going to retract. One of them, Ignacio Díaz de Aguilar. In fact, his brother made statements to La Voz de Lanzarote stating that the former mayor had retracted, even before his statement was registered in the Courts, and even detailing the reasons he was going to allege.
In the same document from the prosecutor, which also established the relationship between the defendants, it was detailed that Ignacio Díaz de Aguilar had maintained a link with Fernández Camero, among other things, through his daughter. And that is because Juana Fernández de las Heras is married to the lawyer Ignacio Calatayud, who in turn worked in Díaz de Aguilar's office in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
On the same day that he withdrew his confession before the judge, José Francisco Reyes admitted that "he had received several lawyers from other defendants in the penitentiary establishment to talk about this." However, he also retracted that later, arguing that at first he had not "understood the question well." Now, the data provided by the Tahíche Penitentiary Center confirms at least that Juana Fernández de las Heras received the visit.
