After having to suspend the festivities in honor of San Bartolomé due to the coronavirus pandemic, the City Council has presented 'Feel San Bartolomé', a proposal "that enhances the most deeply rooted traditions within these celebrations."

"San Bartolomé has always been a town that takes care of its festivals and traditions linked to the month of August, in which the festivity of the Patron Saint San Bartolomé is celebrated. For this reason, the City Council, through the Department of Festivities, delegated to Isidro Pérez, has created a special program through social networks," said the mayor of the municipality, Alexis Tejera.

This program is aimed at all audiences. Videos will be uploaded from Monday, August 17 to Monday, August 24 on the City Council's Facebook, highlighting the figure of all the people who are involved and participate each year to make the festivities possible from the broadest citizen participation.

“We have considered this year to give thanks and pay tribute through the recording of small audiovisual documents that highlight all the people and groups that make our celebrations great for their involvement and that at the same time give perpetuity to our most deeply rooted traditions. There have been many people involved in this program and many others who have not been able to participate, but this will be a first course that we serve to celebrate in this way and remember and recognize their work, inviting you to share this experience," said Tejera.

The Councilor for Festivities, Isidro Pérez, highlighted that the "Siente San Bartolomé" program, accompanied by the hashtag #SentimosAgosto, puts in your hands "a way to experience the festivities, from that feeling that we must not lose." "In this way we can have in these dates a piece of our festivals, playful traditions and living culture with a special feeling for the moment we are living," he added.

“In these days we will remember the town criers of the last 20 years, a walk through folklore, music through the Municipal Choir, Municipal
Folklore School and Band; a tour of the memory of the traditional parades of floats and many more surprises that are included in some of the emotional videos that can be found from Monday the 17th on the Facebook page of the San Bartolomé City Council," said the mayor.

Children's drawing contest

Also seeking the involvement of the little ones, a children's drawing contest will be held, which will open the submission period on Tuesday, August 18. Drawings can be sent to the email address [email protected] until August 23.

The contest has three categories to participate by age, from 3 to 6 years and from 7 to 10 years, and from 11 to 14 years, with the theme being the San Bartolomé Festivities. 3 prizes will be awarded, one per category, endowed with 60 euros in school supplies and an accrediting diploma.

Offering

In addition, the City Council will make the traditional offering asking for the collaboration of all the neighbors, on August 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in the church of San Bartolomé, taking all security measures. "Everything will go to families in need in our community," the City Council indicates.

The mayor and the councilor for festivities have thanked Orlando Callero, artistic coordinator of the program, who has pointed out the importance of the "deep neighborhood feeling with the patron saint festivities, which in visual format will be reflected to live these atypical festivities, in which the total involvement of neighbors in the different acts that have made the festivities great and tremendously participatory will be recorded."

They have also expressed their gratitude to Damiroal Estudio Creativo "for making the poster selflessly, giving it to this City Council and to all the people who have made each video and each of the festivals lived to date possible."
