Although the delicate situation of the Tahíche Hospitality School was barely discussed during the extensive meeting this Friday, the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands announced yesterday that the center will eventually have a "rational and definitive" solution.
However, Manuel Fajardo Feo did not comment on possible financial contributions from the autonomous Executive. "The Hospitality School is municipal property of the Teguise City Council, and the Cabildo has been involved in it and the autonomous Government has granted some specific subsidies," he said.
Following the requests made by both the mayor of Teguise, Juan Pedro Hernández, and the president of the Cabildo, Inés Rojas, the regional Ministry of Tourism "is analyzing what the solution may be." At the moment, Tourism is studying the facilities, which seem to be approved. The Ministry has also requested the curricula of the teachers of the School and, once this analysis is completed, "we will transmit the diagnosis to the administrations," Fajardo specified.
In any case, the Minister made it clear that guaranteeing continuity for the new academic year "will depend on the competent administration", that is, the Teguise City Council, owner of the facilities, together with the co-responsibility of the Cabildo.
Despite not assuring prompt investments by the Canarian Executive, Manuel Fajardo insisted that "the autonomous Government is combining and coordinating efforts, and this will collaborate in solving the problem."
The Minister stressed the importance of the training of students and stressed that, "there are other approved administrative centers already in training", so he assured that from the Government of the Canary Islands "we do not intend to produce a duplication either." Fajardo added to his intervention remarking that "we are going to try to give a solution, but the resources are what they are".
For her part, the councilor Ángeles García, regretted that the Hospitality School is not "within a regulated education that allows to have a qualification in accordance with other teachings." The head of Tourism Planning of the Cabildo advocated for the existence of a tourist education, which she described as "essential, but you have to give Fajardo time and understand that the same education cannot be duplicated, if it is being duplicated as analyzed by the Canarian Government, which understands that there is already a regulated education with Professional Training", she said, "so the Hospitality School would have to be reoriented towards other fields", she concluded.
