The Ministry of Education and Universities of the Government of the Canary Islands has awarded the expansion works of the Los Geranios Center for Early Childhood and Primary Education (CEIP), with a final budget of 679,971.57 euros. The works will provide the Lanzarote center with eight new infant classrooms, a multipurpose classroom and expansion of the dining room and kitchen, facilities that will allow students from the now defunct Mercedes Medina Center for Early Childhood and Primary Education to attend this school.

In total, the expansion will occupy 556.54 square meters in the case of the classrooms and 431.85 square meters in the case of the dining room and kitchen facilities. Thus, the center will have two new modules, with their own access for students from the outside. In addition, a third module, already existing, where the dining room facilities are currently located, will be expanded.

The reorganization of education in Arrecife stems from the need to create an Integrated Vocational Training Center (CIFP) in Lanzarote, an important demand from the island's educational community, which the Ministry is addressing with the conversion of the current IES Zonzamas into CIFP. In order to reliably relocate the secondary school students of this center, the Ministry has launched an education reorganization plan that involves the transformation of the CEIP Mercedes Medina into a Secondary Education Institute and the expansion of the CEIP Los Geranios, to accommodate the students of this center.
