The candidate of the Canarian Nationalist Party in Lanzarote (PNC) for the capital's City Council, Eduardo Spínola, states that "the commercial development of Arrecife is essential for creating employment and lowering the cost of the shopping basket." In his opinion, commerce should develop with large surfaces, medium-sized commerce, and, above all, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

In fact, "the potential for economic development of the island's capital is based on its port centrality and its commerce, without forgetting tourism, lacking other strengths," says Eduardo Spínola.

For this reason, he pledges to provide the Arrecife City Council with a department for attention to small business owners, in which to solve "the cumbersome and slow bureaucratic procedures for commercial opening authorizations." "While large companies have legal teams specialized in this type of procedure, a small business owner, on the other hand, finds the bureaucratic procedures for any opening request very complicated," he adds.

The creation of this department is also justified "because Arrecife's SMEs, despite their small size considered individually, together generate more than 90 percent of the economic activity and employment, and in commercial SMEs, in particular, half of the jobs are occupied by women."

Cheaper basket

In terms of large surfaces, the PNC supports the commercial implementation and commercial development of Arrecife. "Along with the tourist impulse, commerce is the other pillar that Arrecife has for job creation. Large surfaces have total freedom and right of implementation, as long as they comply with the corresponding regulations, just like the companies of Lanzarote."

Thus, Spínola points out, "to the extent that new food chains are implemented in Arrecife, consumers will be able to choose between a greater offer with cheaper prices."

On the other hand, he states that the implementation of large surfaces needs areas with accesses, entrances and exits, and assures that the PNC makes proposals that facilitate the implementation of all types of businesses. In fact, he maintains that the proposal presented by the PNC on the "Humanization of the Duplication of the Ring Road" facilitates the implementation of large surfaces since, according to him, "the service roads proposed make it possible to access all the large surfaces that are implemented on both sides of said road, as well as the neighborhoods of the city."

According to the PNC, "the only specific requirement that the regional regulations require for the implementation of large surfaces is to provide these implementations with the necessary accesses for the expected influx, so that it does not saturate or congest road traffic."

However, the PNC is betting "without hesitation on the entrepreneurs of Lanzarote, "since they are people who have made themselves and have worked hard, many of them since childhood, to get their companies ahead. They create wealth and employment and most of the entrepreneurs of Lanzarote are an example to follow for their tenacity, initiative, seriousness and humanity." "Our public representatives should take an example from our entrepreneurs," concludes the formation.
