The Neighborhood Association of Los Valles has chosen the former president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Dimas Martín, as the proclaimer of the San Antonio Festivities. The former mayor of Teguise and leader of the Partido de Independientes de Lanzarote has been convicted nine times for corruption and crimes against the territory.
He is currently in the Tahíche prison, serving time for one of those crimes. On the occasion of the celebration of the festivities and within the program of festivities, Dimas Martín will be in charge of reading the proclamation on May 31, at 8:30 p.m. in the Sociocultural Center of Los Valles.
Dimas Martín was sentenced last January by the Provincial Court to two and a half years in prison, after admitting that he had charged 72,000 euros in exchange for facilitating Urbaser the award of the Arrecife garbage contract, while María Isabel Déniz was mayor.
In another of the judicial convictions, it was confirmed that Dimas Martín participated in the looting of the public coffers of the Arrecife City Council between 2007 and 2009 to profit the members of the PIL and to obtain an irregular source of income.
