Arrecife already has a Queen of San Ginés. Her name is Desiree Rodríguez Fuentes, she also holds the title of Miss Elegance, and she was chosen by the jury this Wednesday at the Gala held at the Fairgrounds, in which Lourdes Brito Camacho was also proclaimed Miss Lanzarote.

A gala that this year has been organized by the official delegation of Miss Spain. Just two and a half hours in which the 17 candidates paraded on stage, in swimwear and evening wear. The musical performance was given by Almas Gemelas and Walter, who got the audience out of their seats with their performances

The gala started late but was developed with agility and with a tent full of public. María Sara hung the band of Miss Simpatía and Elena María Martínez Pérez and Jill Gina Bechker were named 1st and 2nd Lady.

The starting gun

This year the beginning of the sangineles sounded like poetry and reflection. The artist Juan Gopar was in charge of declaiming the proclamation last Tuesday in El Charco. A speech that invited to the memory and especially to rescue from the memory what for each one is Arrecife. "Choosing which part of the past we want to continue influencing our present".

For Juan Gopar El Charco, for example, "is the historical center of the world". "It is not about "Juan Gopar Barrios", but about "Juan Gopar Barrios tends the pejines in the morro". JUan Gopar Barrios and seventy years of work, and the windy days, and the days of reboso and the jamaca enrocada in an empty dream.

He also spoke of the importance of festivals as the "clearest manifestation of a city, where the collective is lived as a society put to boil". "The party", he suggested, "requires us to abandon the unexpected".
