The jury that will select the best short films competing in the eleventh edition of the Lanzarote Film Festival is made up of a varied representation of young Spanish cinematography and well-known faces of the island's culture. Among them, film director Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, actress María León, actors Quim Gutiérrez and Alejo Sauras, TVE journalist from Lanzarote José Fernández, director of the pedagogical department of the César Manrique Foundation, Alfredo Díaz, and musician Óscar Pérez, alma mater of Oscartienealas.
Daniel Sánchez Arevalo is a screenwriter and film director. His debut in the world of feature films was with "AzulOscuroCasiNegro". His second film was "Gordos" and his latest work -and his first comedy-, "Primos". Few know that before bursting into the world of cinema, Daniel had a prolific and successful career as a short filmmaker. Thus, he made 15 short films and obtained 200 awards, including a nomination for the Goya awards for "Exprés", a pre-selection for the Oscars for "Física II" and presence in the official section of the Venice Film Festival with "La culpa del alpinista".
For her part, actress María León has just shot "La voz dormida", by Benito Zambrano, and her only experience in a feature film has been the successful "Fuga de Cerebros". Her roles in the television series "Aída" and "La Tira" have revealed her fantastic comic side.
Alejo Sauras is an old acquaintance of the Lanzarote festival, where he ended up with "Mensaka", in 1997. But since then he has been trained in numerous plays, television series (La República, 2011) and films. Among his latest works for the big screen are "Los abrazos rotos" (Pedro Almodóvar, 2008), filmed in Lanzarote, "Mentiras y gordas" (Alfonso Albacete and David Menkes, 2008) and "La Habitación de Fermat" (Luis Piedrahita and Rodrigo Sopeña 2007), premiered at the Lanzarote Film Festival, in 2008.
Also, Quim Gutiérrez began very early in the world of acting, since at the age of 12 he was selected to join the cast of the TV3 series "Los mejores años". He debuted in cinema in 2006 with "AzulOscuroCasiNegro", a film by the aforementioned Daniel Sánchez Arevalo and whose performance as the leading actor earned him a Goya as best new actor. "Sangre de mayo", "Primos" or the series "Génesis, en la mente del asesino", consecrated him among the most prestigious young actors in our cinema.
A jury also from Lanzarote
But this jury will also have the representation of several conejeros, such as José Fernández (Arrecife, 1973), TVE journalist, as well as Alfredo Díaz, spokesman for the César Manrique Foundation (FCM) and director of its pedagogical department since 1994.
Likewise, the jury will be composed by the Lanzarote musician Oscartienealas, who with his first album "Como terminar de una vez por todas con Oscartienealas" has placed himself as a reference in independent Canarian music. In just three years he has gone from performing in the venues of his native island to presenting his music on stages throughout Spain, the USA and Mexico. In 2009 his music was part of the feature film "La Isla Interior" by Dunia Ayaso and Félix Sabroso.
