Ciudadanos has asked the Government of the Canary Islands this Friday to “study the possibility of easing some restrictions on the alert levels of the non-capital islands, such as delaying the curfew and the closing of the hotel and restaurant industry”, as it has done with level 3, in which only Gran Canaria and Tenerife are currently located. In this sense, it has asked “what criteria are being followed to establish the changes announced this Thursday after the Governing Council”, since only the alert level in which the two capitals are located has been eased.
"It is understood that this is a measure to help the hotel and restaurant industry, and thus alleviate the economic impact they are suffering, but the hotel and restaurant sector is also having a hard time on the other islands,” said the Secretary of Communication of Cs Canarias, David Rodríguez from Lanzarote. In addition, he referred in particular to “those that were almost two months in alert level 4, such as Lanzarote”, where “the restrictions were very harsh and at no time was it considered to ease any measure”.
In this sense, he pointed out that “the economic engine of the island has been suffocated and, unfortunately, now it has not even been explained why the alert level in which it is located is not going to be made more flexible”.
“Currently Lanzarote does not have epidemiological data that allows it to drop to level 1, but it is in an optimal situation to also delay the curfew and the closure of activities related to the hotel and restaurant industry”, Rodríguez defended.
For this reason, he has asked the regional Executive to “explain what it is based on to ease the restrictions only on some islands”, as well as to “study the possibility of establishing the delay of the curfew also in level 2”.
