The visual artist from Arrecife, José Melián, invites us to tour three halls of the Yaiza House of Culture, where forty works from his impressive exhibition ‘Reflejos y Sombras’ (Reflections and Shadows) are displayed. It is a dreamlike approach to the reality of the island's orography, very well achieved in colors, textures, and composition, highlighting dark tones and relief, which, although it appears to be earth, is created with a mixture of glue and resin.
"They are landscapes of Lanzarote made with oil and acrylic, in which I have wanted to capture the colors of the island, the volcano, and the land," the artist pointed out at the exhibition's inauguration ceremony held this Thursday with the attendance of Yaiza's Councilor for Culture, César Rijo, and art lovers.
Although the painter has a career of about twenty solo exhibitions and nearly ten group shows, this is the first time he has come to Yaiza to share his art. 'Reflejos y Sombras' can be visited until December 23, Monday to Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and in the afternoon, Monday to Friday, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
José Melián studied at the Pancho Lasso School in '75 and has dedicated himself to oil painting ever since, but now he is exploring other techniques such as the one we can contemplate in Yaiza on canvas and wood. The Yaiza City Council encourages its residents and tourists to participate in the cultural life of the municipality.
