The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, reproached in the plenary session this Wednesday on the file of the suspension of the rally, “the embarrassment” of the spokesperson of the Popular Party, “more concerned with obtaining a photo than with enriching the debate.”

“He has played at giving lessons in civility and dignity and all he has shown are his shortcomings and his total ignorance of the functioning of this institution, despite being in government for two years,” adds Corujo. Specifically, the president alluded to the defense made by the Podemos group “which, even if it is with the sole objective of undermining, shows that they are beginning to understand that polarization leads nowhere.” In addition, the president points out the last-minute withdrawal of the interpellation requested by the Popular Party, “because he did not want to prepare the intervention and has left Coalición Canaria in an uncomfortable position.”

“And the most regrettable thing, when asking this Presidency for public responsibilities for withdrawing the signature from the non-elected councilor in a baroque and vulgar intervention when she knows, or should know, that non-elected councilors do not have delegated signature authority,” she adds.

“What the motor sport fans of this island and the Automobile Federation do not deserve at all is that Mr. Medina has had two months of work to prepare for this Plenary and has spent 10 minutes reading an argument full of nonsense, with a language and style inappropriate for a public figure and a serious party, and continuously disrespecting a councilor of this Cabildo and the workers of this Institution, to whom he allows himself the luxury of questioning the reasons for the sick leaves granted by medical professionals and not this presidency at his whim,” the president continues, criticizing.

Given his insistence, the president reminded the spokesperson of the Popular Party and the entire opposition that “there is no patrimonial responsibility whatsoever that this institution must answer to the Automobile Federation for the suspension of the rally.” “But we do have the will to repair the damage caused to the fans of the four-wheel world by proposing new events, which will be subject to environmental regulations,” she adds.

On the contrary, before ending the session, the president wanted to thank “the attitude, the manners and the level of the speech of the spokesperson of Coalición Canaria.”

Cabildo and Federation work for a new date for the Isla de Los Volcanes rally

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, explained this Wednesday to the Plenary that the First Institution and the Spanish Automobile Federation are already working on finding a new date for “the celebration of the Isla de los Volcanes rally” and on a new calendar of events that should “be in solidarity with environmental regulations and sustainable with the island territory.”

Corujo regretted the delay in the resolution of the Rally de los Volcanes file, apologized to the numerous motor sport fans and stated that they are working with the Federation so that this situation does not happen again in the future. “We have learned from a fact that should not have occurred and we have acted quickly and efficiently to solve it,” she asserted.

“We are going to be more demanding with compliance with the legislation to demonstrate that we are capable of combining the protection of our environment with the enjoyment of motor sport, the preservation of the territory with the lives of people in the best possible conditions. We are going to be more demanding with the behavior of the public and with the conditions of the events so that what we experienced does not happen again,” the president pointed out.

Finally, Corujo celebrated the recovery of relations with the Spanish Automobile Federation “after a meeting with its representatives on May 23 together with the Minister of Sports,” and put an end to a plenary session “that has portrayed a political group that only wanted to play politics and try to break the Government group of this Institution.”
