According to the nationalist spokesperson, Luis Morales, "in recent days we have sadly witnessed the death of a minor in Puerto Naos. This is something that should make us all reflect, since this event could have been avoided if the necessary security and lighting measures had been in place."
For Morales, some of the measures are conspicuous by their absence. "The lighting is an important factor that we have not seen for some time now. This, together with the absence of a limit for access at any time of the day or night, has led to several accidents that we all regret."
Coalición Canaria of Arrecife will submit a Motion to the next plenary session to urge the Port Authority of Las Palmas to take the appropriate measures to guarantee the safety of the area, since this State body is solely responsible for the port area.
According to the nationalist spokesperson, "it is truly paradoxical that this port, where countless mishaps have occurred with numerous vehicles falling into the sea, has not taken into account even the slightest security measure. It is regrettable that a port with so many incidents lacks measures to prevent such unfortunate events as the one that happened days ago."
Therefore, the municipal group of Coalición Canaria in the Arrecife City Council proposes to the Plenary to prohibit vehicular access to the port, the lighting of the same and the increase of security measures by the Port Authority, which is competent in this matter.
"I think it is up to all of us to ensure that events like those that occurred never happen again," said Luis Morales.
