Although the appointment of José Carlos Mauricio as 'mayoral candidate' has not yet been formalized by the bodies of the nationalist formation, the president of CC and candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Paulino Rivero, made the designation official this Wednesday, even assuring that Mauricio himself "is very excited, like a child with new shoes" to face this challenge.

Rivero responded in this way, during a meeting with journalists in the capital of Gran Canaria, to the question of how CC will put someone at the head of the list for the City Council who has made it clear on several occasions that he is not excited to assume that responsibility, that it is even "a step backwards" and that he would try to prevent the appointment from taking place. "He wasn't excited until we proposed it to him," said Rivero, who pointed out that Mauricio's designation will mean that CC will present a list that combines youth, drive and experience.

"For us it is a very important injection of new blood," said Rivero, who pointed out that with the candidacies of Lobo for the Cabildo, Julios for the vice-presidency of the Canary Islands Government and Mauricio for the City Council "we have the best project to defend the interests of Gran Canaria in the common project of the Canary Islands".

Rivero recalled that it is "very easy" to take the step to accept a position "by finger" as is that of a councilor of the Government of the Canary Islands, but that the merit is in "going down to the arena" and risking "the name and prestige" heading a candidacy. "That has great personal merit for him," said Rivero in reference to Mauricio.

For her part, the Minister of Health, María del Mar Julios, recalled that Mauricio "is one of the most important figures in CC", and explained that although "he had made the decision not to run, we, the CC colleagues in Gran Canaria, have made him rethink that he is committed to this and continues working on the CC project".

For Julios, Mauricio is the "revulsive" that the capital of Gran Canaria needs so that it can once again be "the most important city in the Atlantic", and that it puts an end to the "narrow vision" of local politics.
