The city of Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote, is going to receive next June 19 an oil rig that is expected to remain for a long season in the Port of Los Mármoles.
It is the Noble Globetrotter I, an offshore rig with a Liberian flag, which is currently sailing the Mediterranean and which will arrive in just over a week to Lanzarote. It will arrive on the island with the company Hamilton y Cía as consignee.
The vessel, built in 2011, is currently sailing north of Tunisia, after departing eleven days ago from the port of Kepez, in Turkey.
The total length of the vessel is 198 meters and its width is 32.24 meters. For the moment, it is sailing at 6.8 nautical miles per hour, heading to the Los Mármoles dock, where it is expected to arrive on June 19, at 7:00 in the morning (local time).
According to Canarias7, the oil rig will be in Lanzarote for a month and a half. The objective is that maintenance and setup work for the infrastructure will be carried out on the island. However, other sources consulted by La Voz suggest that it may stay on the island for around six months, while awaiting a new destination.
Although it is common for oil rigs to arrive at the capital islands of the Canary Islands and remain for long periods in the ports of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, this is the first time that an installation of this type would arrive in Lanzarote.
