Coalición Canaria has taken stock this Monday of its first 100 days in the government of the Arrecife City Council, arguing that "they have served to lay the foundations" of what will be its policy "during the remainder of the legislature." "These have been one hundred days of hard work that serve as a sample of our city project with a single objective, Arrecife and its people," said CC spokesperson, Echedey Eugenio.
In the press conference, held at the party headquarters in the capital, all the councilors were present except María Teresa Lorenzo. "For medical reasons she has not been able to be with us at the beginning of this term, but we trust that she will do so soon, a fact that we are pleased about because she will be a very valuable person in municipal management," Eugenio stressed.
In the act they issued a video to break down the "most important actions" that they claim to have carried out in these first 100 days, which were completed last Friday, March 11.
"We are aware that times in the administration have no shortcuts and, therefore, the execution of complex or overly ambitious projects will not go ahead in the current year, so we have focused our efforts on achieving medium-term achievements that benefit the citizen, while laying the foundations of our long-term city project," began explaining the spokesperson, who also stressed that in these three months they have been "limited by the pandemic that seems to be starting to fade."
However, he assured that during this time they have not "given up" and has been critical of the political formations that "seek confrontation to prevent us from fulfilling our commitment, which is none other than to guarantee the happiness of those who reside in our city."
They highlight their criticisms of the General Plan and the migratory management
Among the "milestones" to which the formation has referred, he began by highlighting his criticisms of the Supplementary Plan of Arrecife processed by the Government of the Canary Islands. "We have been on the side of those who need us most, denouncing the disloyalty of those who have the responsibility of drafting the Supplementary Plan of Arrecife, to the residents of the settlements of Las Vírgenes or the Camino a Güime, with whom we have met to offer them our support and guarantee that we will continue fighting for them in as many administrative instances as necessary," said Eugenio.
Secondly, they highlight their criticisms of the management of the "migration crisis" by the central government. "We have raised our hand to protest against what we understand to be a violation of the Government of Spain against the citizens of Arrecife and Lanzarote. The migration crisis has shown the limitations of a government that should defend the interests of all its constituents and that has treated us as third-class citizens. Proof of this is that the solution to a serious problem that has overwhelmed the State security forces has been the occurrence of the Ministry of setting up a camp near the Arrecife police station to take advantage of the personnel, ignoring the fact that human beings are crowded in it," he added.
The CC spokesperson has also referred to the Ginory case investigation commission, which they requested when they were in the opposition, in a motion that was approved in its day but had not been executed. Now, after the PSOE brought the issue back to the Plenary, Eugenio affirms that they have given it a "boost" and have made it "reality, so that it investigates and raises to the plenary a proposal referring to everything related to this file, making available to it the legal, technical and economic means necessary to carry out its work."
Argana Pavilion
Regarding their management as members of the government, the first issue they have referred to is that of the Argana sports hall. "We have kept our electoral promise to find an immediate solution, transferring to the municipal government our proposal to demand that the company holding the management of the same immediately execute the works that would lead to the opening of its facilities within the percentage that the law allows as a contractual modification," said Echedey Eugenio.

In this regard, he recalled that they transferred that proposal to the mayor, who with the legal reports requested signed a provision that was already sent to the company Clece, concessionaire of the management of the Argana sports hall, "so that it executes in the shortest possible time the project proposed by the City Council, which puts the investment at 1.2 million euros, with the warning that, if not, the procedure for the cancellation of the contract will be initiated, after almost ten years without progress."
This measure, explained Eugenio, "will allow to start the procedure to launch an installation that we understand should not continue to dispense with the residents of Argana and Arrecife."
Citizen Security
From the Department of the Local Police led by Jacobo Lemes, has highlighted "the effort made to improve the safety of citizens, supporting measures to incorporate new troops to the municipal police staff and, meanwhile, increasing the extraordinary services so that they can cover shifts optimally as a way to make up for the lack of human resources in the Local Police staff."
In addition, the CC spokesperson assured that they will "decisively promote the creation of the new police station in facilities that are worthy for the staff of this area and that allow to serve citizens in better conditions."
In this line, he highlighted the agreement signed with the State that, "as a consequence of the seriousness and persistence of criminal offenses committed in the family environment, and more specifically in that of gender violence, will allow an individualized monitoring of the circumstances of the victims of gender violence and the evolution of the risk in which they are, through an adequate coordination of actions between the General Administration of the State and the Local Police of Arrecife, in order to prevent and avoid risks of new aggressions."
"Festivities despite the pandemic"
Eugenio has also defended the "efforts" of the Councilor for Festivities, Encarna Páez, noting that they have allowed, "contrary to the opinion of those who dramatically predicted mass deaths from Covid for those attending the events organized by the Council, that the Cavalcade of the Three Wise Men of Arrecife was held with some modifications due to the coronavirus pandemic, but with the usual essence of this traditional event in the capital of Lanzarote, constituting a real success of participation and demonstrating that when you work with responsibility, it is possible to move forward."
In the same line he has referred to other events held during Christmas and the popular race "San Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife 2022", which was recovered after it was suspended in the last edition, and also to the Carnivals that are currently being held.
Eugenio wanted to highlight "the effort that has had to be made to make the carnivals of Arrecife a reality, especially because our political adversaries have believed to find the perfect demagogic battering ram to hit the municipal government."
The nationalist spokesperson has lamented the "artificial controversy" with the autocovid, of which he has blamed the PSOE, "with the invaluable help of the Public Health of the Government of the Canary Islands", and has reiterated his criticisms of the proposals that were made from the opposition, as well as the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo.
Cultural activity
About the Department of Culture led by Abigail González, he said that "has continued working to ensure that the cultural offer does not stop offering exhibitions and book presentations of the highest level in the House of Culture Agustín De la Hoz, which should continue to be a reference of the culture of Arrecife, but also promoting as a cultural space the Civic Center of Arrecife with the celebration of numerous activities of great social impact, such as the celebration of free classical music concerts that have allowed to bring events with the label of 'elitist' to a citizenship eager for this type of events."
In addition, he stressed that they are "working on the cultural future of Arrecife with the design of the Strategic Plan of Culture that should serve as a roadmap for the cultural policies of Arrecife of the next decade and that will be presented shortly."
He has also referred to the socio-cultural centers, questioning that "they have been abandoned" and ensuring that they intend "to become protagonists of the life of the neighborhoods of the city again, both from the point of view of infrastructure - such as the award of the reform work of the Socio-Cultural Center of Argana Baja for almost 300,000 euros - as of the social, cultural and sports programming of the same."
"Sport for all"
From the Department of Sports, led by Rosmen Quevedo, in addition to the measures to promote the reform works of the Argana Pavilion, they say that "numerous sports venues have been recovered", thanks to the employment programs to which the City Council has welcomed, which are "allowing, renovate, beautify and adapt the municipal sports courts that were in poor condition." Especially highlighted the reform of the Titerroy pavilion, "in which 460,000 euros have been invested, and that will be a reality soon."
In addition, he has defended as another "milestone" of the management of CC that from the Department of Sports of Arrecife has proceeded to the payment of competitive grants for schools and sports entities of the capital of the island, amounting to 450,000 euros divided into the promotion, promotion and organization of grassroots sports, "as well as support for the social work performed by sports entities with activity in the youth and senior categories; contributing to alleviate the economy of sports entities in the municipality and enabling them to continue working from the clubs to continue promoting municipal sports."
Parks and Gardens, Events and Health
Regarding the Area of Parks and Gardens led by David Toledo, they point out that they have "cleaned up the gardens of Los Alonso, Tinasoria or Argana" and have "carried out shock actions in the Theme Park, the Maneje or Los Pinos, putting forward the commitment to make Arrecife beautiful and clean." In addition, they argue that they have carried out "an intense maintenance activity of the green areas of the city" and "different activities with students from different schools."
From the Area led by Maciot Cabrera, Events and Development and Classified Activities, they point out that "has opted for the development of new events and activities that seek to promote employment and boost the economy of our city" and that they have "improved by 20% the response to administrative procedures in the Area of Classified Activities."
Finally, they have referred to the Area of Health managed by Echedey Eugenio himself, stating that "has managed to put into service the new niches and bathrooms of the Cemetery of San Román" and that the new service for the new Animal Welfare Center has been awarded.
