Coalición Canaria (CC) has requested the holding of an extraordinary session so that the Plenary of the Cabildo of Lanzarote urges the Government of the Canary Islands to paralyze the procedure for the execution of the Playa Honda ring road as well as to open a new period of allegations in relation to the contest for the installation of marine cages on the Lanzarote coast, the party reports.
In their statement of reasons, the CC councilors denounce that the study 'Feasibility analysis of partial burial of the road of regional interest LZ-2 in the section between Arrecife and the Lanzarote César Manrique airport' covers "seven alternatives that have not been conveniently exposed and debated in the highest body of democratic representation on the island", such as the plenary session of the Cabildo, and regret that it "has opted for the most environmentally aggressive alternative" of those contemplated in the aforementioned study, for which they request "its paralysis", it collects.
On the other hand, the nationalist councilors recall the "commitment acquired" in a recent visit to the Island by the president of the Canary Islands Government, with different affected sectors and groups, to open "a new period of allegations" in relation to the possible installation of new marine cages on the coasts of Lanzarote, in the places provided for in the Regional Aquaculture Management Plan (PROAC).
The island councilor of CC, Migdalia Machín, emphasizes that "in that meeting Ángel Víctor Torres after disserting on the problem as well as on the position of the Cabildo, which understands that the competence over said activity corresponds to the first Island Corporation since 2018, committed before all those present and the media -to which the Cabildo sent an official press release highlighting said commitment- that a new period of public allegations would be opened".
In this sense, Machín, highlights "the invitation made by Torres to all those groups to present allegations again", and his allusion to the fact that "the responses in this process would no longer come from the Ministry of the Primary Sector but from the Legal Services of the Presidency".
Finally, he underlines that "Ángel Víctor Torres expressed that he had to be absolutely clear" and that as president of the Canary Islands he considered that "he should respect the decision adopted by the island administrations on the place where the marine cages have to be installed, showing himself in favor of the Cabildos and the City Councils deciding on this activity, something that we share and will enforce".
However, "three weeks after that meeting, the autonomous Executive not only has not done what it committed to, but now we have learned that recently the Cabildo has hired external legal services to litigate against the Government of the Canary Islands for this deception", says Coalición Canaria, which for these reasons considers "very necessary the holding of an extraordinary plenary session in which this environmentally worrying issue for Lanzarote society is addressed, especially for the fishing and tourism sectors", they conclude.
