The Nationalist Group in the Arrecife City Council regrets that “the Government Group led by Mayor Ástrid Pérez has failed to invest a total of 18.5 million euros from the 2020 budget in the municipality, ignoring the difficult economic situation that many residents are going through”.
During the debate on the approval of the General Accounts for the year 2020, the spokesperson for the nationalists, Echedey Eugenio, stressed that "the situation is further aggravated when the amount not invested is broken down by areas and it is demonstrated that in the midst of a pandemic, this Government Group has been unable to think about helping citizens”.
“The reality of the budgetary execution of the Arrecife City Council for the year 2020 is that 18.5 million euros have not been invested that should have gone directly to the well-being of the residents and that will end up in the accounts of the banks”, Eugenio stated.
Likewise, after emphasizing that the results are, according to the formation, at least worrying, he emphasized that “the Nationalist Group considers that it is not the most appropriate way to manage an institution”. “They have not been able to spend the money they had, they have not made an effort, nor have they worried, nor have they done their part to ensure that the money of the Arrecife residents is invested in improving their quality of life”, he said.
CC, after “reproaching the Councilor for Finance, Cristina Duque, for wanting to overlook the point relating to the General Accounts without wanting to give hardly any explanations”, the spokesperson for the nationalists went into details and explained that, for example, “2 million euros have not been invested in improving municipal sports facilities, which are going to the pool of surpluses because the Government Group has not had the capacity to manage a budget”.
"1 million euros has not been invested in Arrecife's commerce"
“Neither have the 1.7 million euros planned for the improvement of Arrecife's roads been invested and, in the midst of a pandemic, 1.5 million euros have not been invested in social aid”, they say from the group.
“It is clear that they have not walked through the neighborhoods and have not seen the situation in which many of the streets that need urgent intervention are in. Many photos, but the important thing is still not done”, lamented Eugenio, who recalled “the number of people who are still queuing at Cáritas to eat”.
“Commerce is not free from the Arrecife Government Group's inability to manage either”, says the spokesperson, who adds that “Arrecife's commerce is dying but we have the 500,000 euros of aid to merchants as surplus, and another 500,000 from the improvement works on León y Castillo street. That is to say, 1 million euros has not been invested in Arrecife's commerce”.
The councilor insisted that he would like to know “what are the reasons why the bulk of the capital city council's surpluses have not been invested”. “The only thing they have shown is that, once again, and with what is happening, they are unable to invest to improve the situation of the residents of Arrecife”.
