CC-PNC accuses Corujo of proposing an "outrageous salary increase for all island directors"

The Nationalist Group (CC-PNC) in the Cabildo of Lanzarote accuses the president, María Dolores Corujo, of proposing an "outrageous salary increase for all island directors, which will mean an annual cost of 103,000 euros per head to the first institution".

The proposal to raise the salary of all island directors is not new; it was already raised in the Finance Committee in October 2021 when it went ahead only with the favorable vote of the PSOE, the abstention of its government partners of then and now, PP and Podemos respectively, and the vote against Coalición Canaria.

However, "the aforementioned agreement of the Commission was never elevated to the plenary session, after the scandal was uncovered that left the president and the PSOE alone, with the public and resounding opposition of the rest of the political forces with representation in the plenary session (Podemos, PP and CC), in addition to a broad social rejection", says the Nationalist Group of the Cabildo.

"Now, more than a year later, and taking advantage of the Christmas holidays, the government of the PSOE and Podemos, which then flew into a rage, intends for the plenary session to approve tomorrow, Friday, December 16, 2022, a salary increase that in some cases would go from 53,000 euros gross per year to 87,000 euros. A salary to which is added the 15,000 euros per year of Social Security costs, represents a cost to the Cabildo of 103,000 euros per head", criticize from CC-PNC

"The pretext used by Dolores Corujo for this disproportionate salary increase" is that "the plenary session of the Cabildo when it approved its budget in 2021 (the last one approved, which is extended) already contemplated in the staff a director position with similar remuneration, and the truth is that it was so, but then the PSOE deceived the entire plenary and its then own government partners (PP), camouflaging the true salary of the position 10002 of island director, of which they only reflected 9 months, and 63,750 euros of gross annual salary, instead of the 85,000 euros corresponding to the 12 months of the year, and whose gross salary, however, does appear correctly reflected in the diligence addressed to the Economic Management Body, when they propose the salary increase", point out from the Nationalist Group in the Cabildo.

The spokesman for the Nationalist Group, Samuel Martín, points out that “it is demonstrated that the PSOE deceived the plenary session in the 2021 budgets, hiding the true and very high salary of one of the directors, to later propose the salary equalization of the rest”.

"And to top it off", adds Martín, "the president also proposes that the increase be applied retroactively to March 2022", and the spokesman also recalls that "seven directors, approved on the payroll at a rate of 103,000 euros per year, represent more than 700,000 euros per year only in island directors, non-elected positions of free designation”.

"For all this, the nationalists trust that Podemos will not allow what it criticized so much in 2021 and the PP, which was then part of the government, avoided after abstaining first in the informative commission and then preventing its elevation to the plenary session by Dolores Corujo, who returns to the charge", they conclude.
