They will meet every week and each meeting will take place in a different municipality on the Island. This has been agreed by the Standing Committee of the Canarian Coalition to begin working on its main objective: the general elections next March, in which they will try to convince the people of Lanzarote and, by extension, all the Canarians of how "important it is to have a voice in Madrid", explains Juan Antonio de la Hoz, member of the Standing Committee. To convince, starting next October, the Electoral Committee will start operating in order to prepare the campaign strategy.
For the moment, the president of the party, José Torres Stinga, informed the members of the Committee this Monday of the state of the conversations he is holding with the rest of the nationalist formations, except Nueva Canarias, to seek the unity of the parties and achieve greater representation in the Congress and the Senate. "Torres informed us that these conversations are advanced and there is a good atmosphere for unity", Juan Antonio de la Hoz told La Voz de Lanzarote.
But it is not the only objective because the meeting was also marked by the situation of the Yaiza Town Hall, in which the Government Group, formed by the PNL, is in the minority. The president of the Local Committee of Yaiza and spokesperson for CC in the opposition, Leonardo Rodríguez, conveyed to his colleagues during the Commission his willingness "to give stability to the Consistory", so he "does not rule out any option" when proposing agreements to both PNL and PIL in order to reach an agreement.
The political course begins for CC
The Standing Committee agreed that during the coming months the Island Executives will be held on the last Tuesday of each month. One of the issues on the calendar is the renewal of the party's bodies. After the general elections, the National Congress of CC will take place and once the summer has passed, the Island Congress of Lanzarote will be held. According to Juan Antonio de la Hoz, then it will be the turn of the Local Committees, with the intention that before the end of 2008, all the organic positions of CC have been renewed.
With the beginning of the party work after the break in the month of August, the activities also begin. And the first one planned is a series of conferences in the month of October on the occasion of the day of the flag of the Canary Islands and that culminates on the day of the celebration, October 22, with the presence of Juan Manuel García Ramos, president of the PNC.
