The spokesperson for the Canarian Coalition in the Tías City Council, Amado Vizcaíno, blames the "disinterest and ineptitude of the municipal government" for the high crime rate in the municipality, which is reflected in the report for the first quarter of 2022, published by the Ministry of the Interior.
“Criminal offenses have increased by 22.5% in the Canary Islands in the first three months of this year, and Tías is the worst municipality with more than 20,000 inhabitants on the island in terms of crime, above Teguise and Arrecife,” said Vizcaíno, who assures that “the municipalities where CC governs have better data.”
The nationalist believes that this is only the result of the negligence of a government group that has not known how to do its job, because it is not interested in the issue of security.
“While municipalities such as Teguise and Arrecife have completed their processes of incorporating new police officers, in Tías they have not been able to complete a process that began in 2019 and, furthermore, they have not been able to finalize the procedure for the official positions that allowed the agents to advance in their careers and at the same time free up police positions for new calls,” emphasizes the CC councilor.
Likewise, Vizcaíno denounces the creation of canine units that “have neither gone through the plenary session nor have a specific regulation; but it looks very good to say that we have a canine unit,” he assures. The nationalist spokesperson adds that they have also forgotten about the much-demanded police station. “In three years we have not heard anything, nor about the purchase of new equipment for the police apart from the latest acquisition made for the intervention unit where they have now bought a compressed air shotgun, which fires rubber balls that are used in large crowds, which are very dangerous and that, if I am not mistaken, have never been used in Tías or Lanzarote.”
Vizcaíno regrets that the "little interest of the government makes the work of the agents difficult, who are the ones who, with their personal effort and professionalism, ensure that these rates are not even worse."
