Coalition Canaria and the Partido Popular assured in Madrid that based on the "rapprochement of positions" in the work sessions that have already been held, they estimate that they will reach "a basic agreement" on the draft reform of the Statute of Autonomy of the Archipelago before next Friday concludes the new deadline for submitting amendments that the Bureau of Congress set this Tuesday.
In a joint statement that was distributed to the media while the two delegations continued to meet, both parties also "urge all political forces, and especially the PSOE", to "join the process of promoting" the statutory reform.
The meeting began in Congress at around 10:00 am in the offices that until today have belonged to the Coalition Canaria-Nueva Canarias Group, and the two PP spokespersons in the Constitutional Commission of Congress, Federico Trillo and Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, and the negotiators of Coalition Canaria José Miguel Ruano and Fernando Ríos Brull are present.
Both delegations will continue negotiating to reach an agreement and in the written statement they commit to "promote the processing and approval" of the Statute and "seek a consensus and common text in the successive procedures.
They also show their commitment to "advance so that it reflects a commitment to the uniqueness and identity of the Canary Islands, with full guarantees of its constitutionality".
