The candidate of Coalición Canaria for the mayor's office of San Bartolomé, David Rocío, has asked for greater diligence from the mayor of San Bartolomé, María Dolores Corujo, regarding the project of the sports center of Playa Honda. In the opinion of the nationalist candidate, the mayor has acted with "negligence" when certifying this work, "which could have lost an important investment from the Island Council, planned for this project." Rocío affirms that, "concerned about the possibility of losing the investment", he has negotiated a two-month extension in the project's deadlines with the president of the Cabildo.
The island institution had committed a budget of around 300,000 euros for the work. According to Coalición Canaria, that investment was "put at risk" by "exceeding the certification deadlines." Therefore, David Rocío, councilor for Youth and Citizen Participation, "has sought a solution, managing together with the president of the Cabildo a two-month extension in the project's deadlines," CC says in a statement.
"Thanks to this, the municipality has been able to guarantee the investment planned by the Cabildo, which was about to be lost due to non-compliance with the deadlines," they maintain. In the opinion of David Rocío, "it would have been irresponsible for Playa Honda to continue being deprived of a sports space in the middle of the town, with works that had already been paralyzed for too long and that were again at risk of being stuck." In that site, it was planned several years ago to build a municipal swimming pool and, after the company that had been commissioned the project abandoned the work, the project was paralyzed until it was agreed to create the new sports courts that are being built.
In addition, the local committee of Coalición Canaria of San Bartolomé reminds in its note to the mayor "the need to definitively approve the island budgets, whose initial approval was threatened by the position dictated by the direction of the PSOE." "These island budgets foresee an investment of around 2 million euros for the municipality of San Bartolomé, money that should not be paralyzed by partisan or electoral issues," they emphasize.
