Carlos Morales and the former mayor of Yaiza, José Francisco Reyes, had to go to the Arrecife Courts this Friday to testify about the architect's house in Puerto Calero, within the actions that are followed in the framework of the "Unión" case. Morales, husband of Alexia of Greece, is charged with an alleged crime against land management for the construction of this house, while Reyes is charged with an alleged crime of urban prevarication, for granting the building permit to the architect.
The judge of the Court of First Instance Number 5 of Arrecife, María Jesús Hernández Elvira, explained in an order dated November 15, 2012 that "there were pending new statements from the defendants and witnesses" in this case. In that order, the judge set a date for these statements by Reyes and Morales, although they were later suspended and finally took place this Friday.
Carlos Morales, who is also being investigated in the "Unión" case for the alleged attempt to rig the General Plan of Arrecife, has gone to the Courts to testify about the construction of his house on rustic land in Puerto Calero. Now, the new General Plan of Yaiza, currently in process, reclassifies this space as developable land, accommodating this house.
The drafter of the General Plan of Yaiza, Jorge Coderch, who has also been called to testify as a witness in this separate piece of the "Unión" case, defended this decision and assured that he had found it "logical" to regulate the space in which Morales' house is located. "I have never taken into account to solve this problem that this gentleman is very famous and is charged," he assured.
One of the first to harshly question this measure was Carlos Espino, one of the complainants in the "Unión" case. "I don't understand how a rustic land suddenly becomes urban, because our local prince consort has built there," he denounced.
