The socialist councilor of Teguise, Lourdes Cabrera, went to the Courts of Arrecife this Friday to testify as an accused, within the case that investigates the filtering of emails from one of her government partners, specifically the Councilor for Celebrations, Daniel Morales.

After her statement, Cabrera's defense formally requested the dismissal of the case against her from the Court. "The events that actually occurred do not constitute any infraction", she maintains in a brief note sent after going to testify.

Since her summons two weeks ago, the councilor had not wanted to make statements on the subject, so that brief email sent to the media is her first pronouncement. Daniel Morales did speak, who was "surprised" that the judge pointed to his government partner, although he advanced that if confirmed, it would generate "more than an earthquake in the government group". In any case, he said he wanted to be "prudent" until the day of Cabrera's statement, that is, until this Friday.

The controversy dates back to September 2013, when some media published emails that the councilor sent to a private company. All of them had to do with his management in the Celebrations area. The information was made public by the president of the Anti-Corruption Alliance, based on a complaint filed in the Courts by a local police officer from Teguise.

This police officer filed the complaint, but the Courts dismissed it, according to Morales himself to La Voz. It was then that the councilor decided to file a complaint, "in which the theft of internal documentation, both personal and emails and internal reports, was brought to the attention of the Courts".

The judge summoned several people to testify, including the president of the Anti-Corruption Alliance and the local police officer, who apparently pointed to Cabrera as responsible for the "leak". For this reason, the judge summoned the socialist councilor for alleged disclosure of secrets, considering that she could have used her position to obtain this documentation and provide it to third parties.
