Cabildo and Canarian Government will allocate 3.4 million to assist victims of gender violence in Lanzarote

President María Dolores Corujo and Councillor Noemí Santana have signed an agreement to "consolidate and maintain the comprehensive prevention and protection system" for the next four years

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, and the Minister of Social Rights, Equality, Diversity and Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands, Noemí Santana, have signed a cooperation agreement for the "consolidation and maintenance of the social system of prevention and comprehensive protection of victims of gender violence on the island of Lanzarote." 

This agreement contemplates actions and measures over a period of four years to prevent gender violence and assist victims of this sexist violence. The total budget for these actions during that period will be 3,453,013 euros, of which 1,790,343 will be contributed by the Canarian Institute of Equality and the rest by the Cabildo.

These resources will be used especially to provide personnel, training and resources to shelters and support services. Likewise, the Emergency Device for Battered Women (DEMA) will be reinforced in Lanzarote, which will be attended by specialized personnel and will work in coordination with social services, the State Security Forces and Corps, and emergency and health services. The DEMA will also be responsible for advising, assisting and accompanying women victims of sexist violence and the direct family members dependent on them. 

According to the Cabildo, the network of Services and Centers for information, guidance and advice, as well as care and intervention in a comprehensive and interdisciplinary manner, will also be reinforced in Lanzarote. And the resources for temporary shelter for women and children at risk.

"All this accompanied by training actions for the personnel that attends to the victims and prevention and awareness campaigns," they add.
