The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, has expressed his satisfaction with the agreement reached between the tourism employers' associations of the province of Las Palmas and the unions of the sector; which has allowed to call off the strike scheduled for April 17 and 18. This agreement includes specific salary improvements and a calendar to continue advancing in the optimization of the working conditions of the sector.
“This is a firm, clear and transcendental agreement. It reflects the vision and responsibility of all parties involved in the face of a crucial issue for Lanzarote, not only from an economic point of view, but also from a social one,” said Betancort. “The improvement of the working and salary conditions of the workers dignifies the profession and contributes to the benefits of tourism being distributed more fairly and directly among the families of our island.”
The agreement contemplates an extraordinary bonus of 650 euros to be paid in May 2025, a total salary increase of 5% starting in April, and an additional increase of 4% in 2026. Likewise, the opening of the negotiation table for the new collective agreement 2026-2029 is set for September of this year, which will allow further consolidation of progress in the sector.
Betancort wanted to thank "the willingness to understand and the work" of all the agents involved in this negotiation, both the business organizations and the unions, “for putting the general interest first and demonstrating that dialogue is the best way to resolve conflicts.”
The president also stressed that "this type of progress is essential to reduce social opposition to tourism."
“When agreements dignify employment and reinforce the real impact of tourism on people's lives, the discourse that the benefits of the sector do not affect citizens is combated. This is a firm step for tourism to be an engine of development and social cohesion,” he concluded.
