The Minister of Transport and Security of the Cabildo, Ramón Bermúdez, announces that next week the tender for the management of the Auriga will be published in the Official Gazette of the Province. The terms of this tender establish that any legal entity or company can participate in it, whether from Lanzarote or from outside the island.
And according to Bermúdez, "the bidding process must be objective, with evaluable and non-capricious criteria, and be marked by transparency."
In this way, the head of the area responds to a sector of the taxi that, according to him, had asked him to interfere in the terms of the tender "so that some professional association would have some privilege."
"Absolutely cannot do that, it would be prevarication", says Bermúdez, who on the other hand understands that the taxi drivers had a lot of time to organize and create the corresponding body to be able to self-manage the Auriga. However, in their day they did not do it and now, says the councilor, "the process is unstoppable, it is an administrative and bureaucratic issue, where the politician does not intervene."
The Playa Blanca buses are not touched
The head of transport also met this week with professionals from Yaiza to study the complaints they have made against the Playa Blanca buses. The taxi drivers insist on the damage that the service is causing them, while the councilor put on the table a report that he requested from the operator and the City Council itself in which it is evident, according to Bermúdez, that the complaints of the taxi drivers are not supported. Among other things, the professionals from the south had reported that the buses are used mainly by tourists, to whom, according to them, the hotels give a transport voucher, and that the workers in the area have difficulties accessing the service.
On the contrary, the councilor maintains that this does not happen. "The Yaiza police inspected the stops for days to determine what was happening and it can be concluded that neither the buses are full of tourists exclusively nor are people left at the stop", says Bermúdez. The councilor assures that what he receives is a demand for more vehicles in the south by users. In addition, he anticipates that "as of today the buses will not be touched and in the future they will be expanded."
