The Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, Sebastián Franquis, recently signed the order by which the drafting of two construction projects on the island of Lanzarote is awarded for a total amount of 412,299 euros, projects that are commissioned to improve the section between Guatiza and Órzola of the LZ-1, and the link between the Arrecife ring road and the LZ-2 at the height of El Cable. These are the first two projects on this island whose drafting, a prior step before contracting the works, has been tendered since 2010.

The first of the projects, the conditioning of the LZ-1, Guatiza-Órzola, has been awarded to the UTE Ayesa Ingeniería y Arquitectura-Consultoría Integral de Proyectos de Ingeniería Civil 3, for 244,260 euros.

According to the regional government, the works will consist of drafting the construction project for the improvement and conditioning of the LZ-1 in the Guatiza-Órzola section, "as a result of manifest deficiencies due to the time elapsed since its construction, mainly in terms of road safety, drainage and also in terms of improving the existing pavement, with the need to improve its surface regularity." The project must also take into account the creation of a bike lane that runs parallel to the current road.

At least three alternatives will be studied for the connection of the Ring Road with the LZ-2

The second project whose drafting has just been awarded is the remodeling of the connection link between the LZ-3 (ring road) and the LZ-2, which has gone to the UTE TPF Getinsa Euroestudios-Rabadán 17, for an amount of 168,039 euros. In this case, the works consist of drafting the construction project that defines a "high capacity" link between the aforementioned roads of regional interest.

The section in question is developed within the municipal term of Arrecife, and in a first phase of the contract at least three alternatives of the possible connection link will be studied in order to select, together with the institutions involved, such as the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the one that best suits the needs of the road and its operation, and then in a second phase of the contract to carry out its development as a construction project.

The scope of study will cover the LZ-2 road from kilometer point 1+000 to the roundabout connecting with the Rambla Medular in Arrecife (including said roundabout and its accesses) and the LZ-3 road from its connection with the LZ-2 (link under study) to kilometer point 5+300. Part of the object of the contract is the study and definition of all the accessory works (reorganization and closure of accesses, modifications to existing roads, etc.) that are necessary together with the link itself.

Once both projects are delivered, the Ministry will launch the bidding process to contract the works of the two interventions, of which it highlights that "they would be the first two construction executions that the Government of the Canary Islands contracts in Lanzarote since 2011".
