According to ASIGC, this decrease in the number of inspection and surveillance services has also reduced the rescue capacity for irregular immigrants arriving by boat.

In fact, according to the Association, while the patrol boat, which "also serves in Lanzarote", has been "stopped", "a total of 9 cayucos or boats have arrived on the Island".

Sources from ASIGC confirmed to ACN PRESS that the mooring of the patrol boat for at least 6 days of the assigned quadrant in October "is not justified by the lack of personnel that occurred last month due to the high number of sick leaves", since at this time "95% of the staff of the Maritime Service based in Fuerteventura is available and is sufficient to keep the patrol boat operational every day".

For ASIGC, this measure is a response to "the new productivity model of the Benemérita" which would require paying overtime, something they also describe as unjustified "in cases of necessity such as these humanitarian services performed by the Corps' agents".
