The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, was this Tuesday on the program Good morning, Lanzarote of Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero to answer some questions about the improvement measures that are being carried out in the city.

In the program, de León revealed that "a budget close to 75 million euros will be approved compared to the 68,429,000 we had last year, so it is the highest budget in the history of the capital." They intend to take this budget to the next plenary session this February.

"We also want to expand the staff of the department, human resources and also improve the staff to be able to provide the departments with the different needs," he specified.

Remodeling of the Theme Park

The mayor has highlighted that "the project is based on a plot of more than 30,000 m² that will become a large green lung, which will also have sports facilities, leisure areas and also large shade spaces for all citizens."

"We will also have outdoor cinema, a skatepark area, a dog park, leisure areas and restaurants, with leisure area I mean that it can have a cafeteria area as it used to have," he says.

This project will have an investment of almost 10 million euros to "transform the maritime coastline and with the intention of rehabilitating the Parque Ramírez Cerdá," says the mayor. He also highlighted that the pedestrianization of Avenida Fred Olsen will continue to the Rotarios roundabout.

In addition, de León has stressed that the City Council is working to ensure that the project of the Conference Center "goes ahead." Regarding the Argana Alta Sports Center, the mayor has revealed that "there have been some unforeseen events in the work, but I have already seen how the interior is and the final details of everything that is the wooden platform are already being carried out and finally, after almost 12 years, I think it is right that the neighbors can enjoy sports facilities."

Improvements in Arrecife

Yonathan de León has explained in Good morning, Lanzarote that 150 streets are being paved out of the 800 that Arrecife has. Faced with the complaints of the neighbors for other necessary works in certain streets, the mayor has responded that "we cannot reach all the streets due to material time."

"Also in Pérez Galdós street a project of urban transformation will be carried out until reaching the area of the four corners, a beautiful project in which it has new sidewalks and a provision of trees," he indicated.

Regarding the increase in police presence, the mayor has revealed that "although they do not see them, we have four undercover vehicles and plainclothes police officers who are patrolling in different conflictive points but we have activated a protocol to try to reduce the problem that has been generated with the closure of nightclubs in those squares such as in the Buganvillas area or in the Parque de los Pinos, those parks that can be conflictive and where it has even been communicated by neighbors that there may be sales of narcotics."

On the other hand, before the lack of parking spaces in Arrecife, de León has pointed out that "places are lost not because the City Council wants to, but because it is necessary to adapt to the DGT regulations." "We are looking for an alternative in the area of the Molino del Cabo Pedro, we have proposed a joint meeting that we have with the Cabildo to raise the possibility of making two parking floors in which the upper part can be used as a green space for the use of the neighbors," he continued.

Regarding the purchase by the Cabildo of Lanzarote of the Arrecife Market, according to the mayor, the objective is to "recover that food market that existed in the capital in the past."

Sports subsidies

Regarding sports subsidies, he said that "we are taking them to the government board this Wednesday to allow those clubs that have justified to be paid and those that have not justified must return, but they were all subject to the completion of all the files."
