The Deputy Mayor of Arrecife and head of the Contracting Area, Echedey Eugenio, formalized the contract with the company GOYASTUR SA last Wednesday, January 8, to carry out the works of adaptation of the Multi-Purpose Room of the Civic Center to turn it into the first municipal theater.
This ambitious project, which involves an investment of 951,317.93 euros, plus 66,592.26 euros in respect of IGIC, will have a maximum execution period of 105 calendar days from the signing of the site act.
Eugenio stressed that “it was one of the great challenges that we had set for ourselves in this term, Arrecife deserves a theater that lives up to its importance as the capital of Lanzarote and we are finally going to have it. We have worked intensely to ensure that this project, which responds to a historical demand from citizens, finally goes ahead.”
Likewise, the councilor stated that the new theater will become the epicenter of culture in Arrecife, “and will offer an adequate and quality space for the development of artistic proposals that will enrich our city and consolidate it as a cultural reference on the island of Lanzarote and as the third capital of the Canary Islands.”
In the same vein, the Councilor for Culture, Abigail González, highlighted the cultural and social impact of the initiative. “This infrastructure will mark a before and after in the cultural offer of Arrecife, since it will enable the celebration of events that, due to their magnitude, did not fit in spaces such as the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz or the Socio-cultural Centers,” she said.
The infrastructure will have a useful surface area of 365 square meters, including a main stage and capacity for 180 seats thanks to the installation of rotating telescopic tiers. In addition, an advanced lighting and sound system will be implemented, allowing the space to be quickly adapted to both theatrical performances and other cultural and social events.
The City Council has also designed a quality control and safety plan for the works, so that the new theater meets the highest technical and protection standards.
The works are expected to be completed by the second half of the year, at which time Arrecife will be able to enjoy a multi-purpose cultural space that will enrich the cultural life of the city and offer new opportunities for local artists and events of various kinds.
